How I Met Your Mother: “The Perfect Cocktail”

 Grade: D-

Airdate: 5/2/11

I am not really sure what to say about How I Met Your Mother anymore. The later seasons have had not-so-great episodes, bad episodes and episodes like this one, which are just down right painful.

In this episode Marshall (Jason Segel) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) get in a fight over the Arcadian Hotel, which is the hotel GNB is trying to destroy. GNB is paying Ted (Josh Radnor) to build the new GNB on the land, which is being protested by Ted’s girlfriend Zoey, played by Jennifer Morrison. Marshall get quit GNB and was hired as Zoey’s lawyer to fight GNB. All this confusing annoyance just has me asking, why hasn’t this storyline died yet.

Anyway, Lily (Alyson Hannigan) and Robin (Cobie Smulders) try to help Marshall and Barney make up by finding the perfect cocktail. The episode is divided into sections based off which drink they have. This stagey has worked for HIMYM before, it did not in this episode. The other storyline was Ted and Zoey spending the night in the Arcadian to see who would break and join the other’s side.

I don’t know if it is the casting, the acting or the writing but Zoey always sounds sarcastic so the cute lines between her and Ted failed. I’m still wondering why Zoey is even around, since she is not the mother. Ted having girlfriends worked in the earlier seasons when you thought maybe the show is lying and one of these girls is the mother. The only other why it works is if the audience really likes the girl; Victoria, Robin, Stella. But, I don’t like Zoey.

I would have given this episode an F, but it did have Carl make a guest appearance and very brief reference to the cockamouse. So, HIMYM is your going to bring back things from season one and two please be as funny, because you are just making me miss it more.
