Bones: “The Gunk in the Garage”Posted: October 4, 2012
I was very surprised by this episode of Bones in a very good way. For most of the episode I thought it was just going to be about the case and nothing was really going to happen with the lives of the major characters. Then, the show pulled a sneak attack.
The episode opens with a guy walking to his car in a parking garage. There is a drink on top of the car. He picks up the drink and a bomb goes off. While Booth (David Boreanaz) and Bones (Emily Deschanel) are on their way to the crime scene, Booth gets a call from Caroline (Patricia Belcher) that he has to go into the office. He then spend most of the episode going through a trial run of would be his job if he was promoted. It is an administrative desk job and he hates it. He doesn’t take the promotion. That was all a little predictable.
Anyway, this leaves Sweets (John Francis Daley) and a rookie agent named Olivia Sparling, played by Danielle Panabaker, that Caroline randomly selects to do the field work for the case. Angela (Michaela Conlin) is able to identify the victim and Sweets and Olivia go to the guy’s house to tell his wife. It is clear by this point that Olivia doesn’t like shrinks and is annoyed to be paired with Sweets. While they are talking to the wife the apparent victim walks up to the house.
It turns out that the victim and apparent victim were identical twins, who were adopted by different families at birth and did not know about each other. Sweets says that studies have been done that show separated identical twins live very similar lives. Olivia is skeptical, but he and Angela are able to use this to correctly identify the victim. Olivia admits that she is impressed and start playing nice. Angela says that Sweets seems to have the hots for Olivia. He denies it obviously saying that he is with Daisy. Daisy is talked about a lot but not in this episode. Strangely, there was no squintern this week.
The team is able to figure out where the bomb came from and that both of the twins were at the hotel above the parking garage the day of the murder. It turns out the alive twin’s wife hired a hit man to kill him. He killed the wrong twin but is trying again to get the second one. Sweets and Olivia go on a field trip to find him, but stop to get their chaperon Booth first. They find the hit man, who is at the same outdoor shopping, food court area that the second twin is at and he has a cup bomb. Booth and Olivia pull their guns on him and Sweets is used as a distraction and grabs the bomb right before the killer is shot. But, Sweets ends up getting gazed by a bullet, Olivia’s bullet.
As he is being taking into the ambulance he admits that he likes her but he is with someone. She said she knows, but kisses him anyway. I was actually kind of surprised.
Good episode, Bones. Sexual tension has always been a major part of this show, but now it has decreased since the end of season sixth. Booth and Bones are in a serious relationship and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela are married. For some reason, Cam’s (Tamara Taylor) love life is hardly ever talked about. She might still be dating Paul, we haven’t heard anything in a while. So, with so many successful relationships why not cause a problem in the one has the best chance of ending? Sweets and Daisy don’t have a kid. I have never liked Daisy so, I’m interested to see how this is going to play out.
